After initial contact, you may have set these goals as next steps:
Next Steps: Set up a time to talk again in a week (though future calls may be less frequent).
- We will:
- Contact the nearest Cru team in that area and gauge their desired involvement
- Look into what history Cru has had with that campus
- They will:
- Pray for the campus
- Review our DNA and Statement of Faith
- Review, sign and return a Church Partner Agreement
- Review the Church Partners Guide in light of their passions/capacity
If the partnership seems to be moving toward a full collaboration (such as launching a movement together), we suggest that subsequent meetings follow a certain pattern (looking back, looking up and looking forward, which we call “Three Thirds”). This video talks through how we have Three Thirds meetings with student volunteers. It might look a little different meeting with a pastor or professor, but the same principles apply.
NOTE – If you are unable to do the launching work yourself, consider the Coaching Center as virtual members of your team ready to run with a campus any tiem for as long as you need.
Second Call
- Look Back: How are they doing? Did both of you get through the next steps above? What reactions are they having and what again is the vision they’ve been given for the campus?
- Look Up: Review the article “Defining Our Cause” asking them particularly what the Lord is saying in the verses.
- Look Forward: Ask them what goals they feel like they should set for this coming week in order to take a step toward reaching the campus for Christ. Here are some ideas.
- TRAIN: Read and discuss Decoding the Campus together.
- CHALLENGE: Have them to do a little digital decoding, then to invite people to prayer walk the campus before your next meeting. Encourage them to decode the campus a bit. If the’re overachievers, have them use this strategy to find Key Volunteers.
- EQUIP: Mail them a few packets of Knowing God Personally Booklets and QuEST Surveys.
Third Call
- Look Back: How are they doing? Did they complete their “Looking Forward” goals from last week? What reactions are they having and how is the vision God is giving them for the campus evolving?
- Look Up: Talk through the article “Would You Like to Know God Personally” and pray in response to what the verses there reveal about God’s heart.
- Look Forward:
- TRAIN: Read and discuss this article on Initiative Evangelism.
- CHALLENGE: Have hit the campus again and talk to students with a brief survey. They may end up:
- Leading students to Christ (using the Knowing God Personally booklet) or
- Identifying potential student leaders (with the Key Volunteer Challenge).
Either way, exchange contact info and–within 48 hours–invite them and all potential members to chime in on a time for a first meeting (using Doodle) to plan how best to reach the campus for Christ.
Fourth Call
- Look Back: How are they doing? Did they complete their “Looking Forward” goals from last week? What reactions are they having and how is the vision God is giving them for the campus evolving?
- Look Up: “Satisfied?” and pray about what the Lord may be saying through the verses.
- Look Forward:
- TRAIN: Talk through what a first and ongoing weekly meetings might look like. Here’s a sample depending on whether your gatherings are less than 20 or more than 20. In principle, though, it is a modified version of that Three Thirds concept you’ve been taking them through each week (which in turn is a God-Saturated form of the 4DX by Franklin Covey). Now, we’re asking the students to look back, up and forward to help them advance the mission that God is putting on their heart.
- CHALLENGE: Have set up their FIRST CAMPUS MEETING based on the availability students listed on Doodle.
Further Calls
Continue to Look Back, Look Up and Look Forward in each of your calls going forward. Have them take their student leaders through Three Thirds style meetings too, and empower them to bring Prayer, Evangelism, Bible and Community to their movement. The Campus Ministry Handbook can be an ongoing guide, but here are some options for things to introduce along the way.
- Walking in the Spirit
- Day With the Lord
- Discipleship
- Picture of a Leader
- Forming a Leadership Team
- Evangelism Tools (Soularium, Perspective Cards, CoJourners)
- Launching additional movements on their campus and others
- Global Missions
